Mendoza is Argentina’s wine capitol and Malbec is the shining star of the country’s wine industry. Chakana is a great choice for exploring wines a cut above entry level Malbec.
The winery name comes from the local Indian word for the Southern Cross. The wine is 100% Malbec from their Agrelo vineyard. The label has a folk-art style jaguar protecting the bottle from thirsty wine bloggers.
This is another bottle courtesy of the Cabinator and Glorious T. The wine is aged in French oak, which adds a bit of soft tannin. This was a ripe explosion of fruit in the mouth.
The rich fruit flavors include black cherry and raspberry. It’s a lively wine with a silky finish. It is full bodied, but never feels heavy.
It’s available in local stores for about $24. Chakana is a great wine to sip on a wintery Northwest Ohio day!
