Bridlewood Estate Winery 2009 Syrah, Central Coast

A recent trip to Zia’s Italian restaurant at the Docks in Toledo called for a nice red to go with pasta. Our pick was a 2009 Bridlewood Syrah.
We had visited the Bridlewood winery last year. We were as impressed with their wines as with the gorgeous grounds and tasting room.
This bottle was a great bargain at just $26. It’s tough to get a nice bottle off a restaurant wine list at that price.
The Syrah was smooth with raspberry and blackberry fruit up front. The tannins were light in this medium to full bodied red. This is a very expressive wine for its price point.
Pairing this with pasta was spot on. As we enjoyed the sights and smells of this Italian restaurant our entrees disappeared and the carafe slowly sank to empty.
Bridlewood wines are a great choice at the value, middle or high ends of the price spectrum. The complexity grows as the prices increase, but there is a bottle for every palate.
