Domaine Labbe 2011 Vin De Savoie “Abymes”

This wine was an adventure that began as a whim. As I browsed the wine specials, I was intrigued to learn that Abymes is in eastern France in the foothills of the Alps.
The chilly mountain temperatures keep the wine cool during fermentation to preserve the beautiful aromatics of the Jacquère grape. This Savoie wine from Domaine Labbe is 100% Jacquère – something so exotic sounding I just had to try it.
One of the rules of thumb in wine pairing is to enjoy the wine with the food from the same region. So this wine pairs especially well with Gruyere cheese and Swiss fondues and Raclette. It will pair wonderfully with seafood too.
The Abymes is dry and fragrant with floral notes. It is crisp and bright, but never biting. It has a nip of sweetness on the finish to wrap up a satisfying sipping experience.
This is a nice match with food, but also a darn good wine for enjoying all by itself whenever you are ready for an Alpine adventure. The cost is a mere $12. At this price you can pick up several bottles for your next party or to stow away for everyday drinking.
