Austin Beeman's List of Best Wines Under $30
1. Paul Thomas 2009 Sancerre “Les Comtesses” $23.99, Old World White Wine. This is a superstar Sauvignon Blanc with great food-friendliness.
2. Lioco 2008 Chardonnay. $19.99, New World White Wine. The epitome of Sonoma Chardonnay terroir with no manipulation of any kind. This is pure Chardonnay.
3. Eyrie Vineyards 2007 Pinot Noir ‘Oregon.’ $29.99, American Red Wine. The first, and still one of the best, Oregon Pinot Noirs. It transcends simple fruitiness with some of the most complex Pinot flavors in the USA.
4. J.L. Chave 2007 Cotes-du-Rhone ‘Mon Coeur.’ $25.99, European Red Wine. One of the legendary wine producers in the world and a historically great vintage collaborated on a wine so good it doesn’t really belong in this price category.
5. Dona Paula 2006 Tannat/Malbec ‘Salix Vineyard.’ $29.99, South of the Equator Red Wine. A dark and complex wine that embraces the uniqueness of the Argentine climate by embracing blending and single vineyards.
6. Machmer 2002 Bechteimer Rosengarten Riesling Eiswein. $29.99/ 375ml, Sweet Wine. A German Riesling Eiswein for less than thirty dollars? Are you kidding me?
